How do I get comped experiences beyond food?

By Jeff, Founder, SIGNL · October 30, 2026

The same way you get comped meals: local businesses in every category comp creators whose audience lives nearby. On SIGNL the roster spans salons and barbershops, spas and wellness, fitness studios, boutiques, attractions, hotels and local services, and you claim the offers you actually want. Same Standard Visit, same honest post, no food account required.

The short answer

Comps are not a food thing. They are a local thing. Any business with quiet hours, a new service, or a neighborhood to win has the same reason a restaurant does to trade product for a post. One cross-category roster is how you reach all of them at once.

Who comps

Which businesses comp creators besides restaurants?

Every category on SIGNL runs comped visits, because every local business has the same shape of problem: capacity that expires. An empty salon chair at 2pm, a Tuesday spa slot, a half-full boat tour.

/ Beauty

Salons, barbers, spas

Hair salons, barbershops, nail and lash studios, day spas, massage and wellness studios, and med spas and aesthetic practices. The comp is the booked service. For health and aesthetic services, posts are personal experiences only, with no treatment claims and full disclosure of the comp.

/ Body

Fitness and wellness

Boutique gyms, yoga and Pilates studios, climbing gyms, spin and boxing studios, float and sauna spaces. Class packs and off-peak sessions are the classic comp here, and fitness creators are the obvious match.

/ Out

Retail, experiences, stays

Boutiques and local shops comp product at their cost for launch posts and new arrivals. Attractions, tours, escape rooms, cooking classes and event venues comp the experience itself. Boutique hotels and short-term stays comp nights and day passes.

Off a platform, reaching these businesses means pitching them one at a time, category by category, which is why most creators only ever get comped by restaurants: restaurants are the ones who built the habit first. A single roster inverts that. Your profile carries your categories, businesses post offers in theirs, and the offers find you. That is also why the spa, beauty, fitness and experiences pages exist on the business side of this site: those owners are being told the same story from their side of the table.

How it works

Is a salon comp different from a meal comp?

No. The mechanics are identical, and that is the point. You claim the offer, visit like a real customer, redeem in the app, and post the Standard Visit: 1 post or reel plus 1 story that shares the post, to a 48-hour standard, honest and disclosed.

Two practical differences are worth knowing. First, service comps run on the business's calendar more than a restaurant's does: a salon comp usually lands in quieter weekday hours, which suits creators with day jobs. Second, the offer always states what the comp covers before you claim it: the service for you, whether a guest is included, and any ceiling. There are no surprise upgrades at the register and no open tabs, in any category.

And keep the two ledgers straight in your own records: comped services are income at fair market value, the same as comped meals. The short version is in are comped meals and free services taxable income? and yes, the title says meals, but the rule covers the facial too.

FAQ

Questions, answered straight

Do I need to be a food creator to get comped experiences?

No. SIGNL's roster is cross-category: businesses book creators for what they post about, and categories include beauty, fitness, family, local life, nightlife, music and more. A creator who posts about their city can be comped by a salon one week and an attraction the next. Food is simply the most common first offer.

What does a salon or spa comp look like?

The booked service, for the creator: a haircut, a treatment, a class pack, whatever the offer states, with the same terms as any comped visit. You visit like a real customer, in the business's quieter hours when it suits them, and you post the Standard Visit: 1 post or reel plus 1 story that shares the post, honest and disclosed.

Can I get comped stays and things to do, not just services?

Yes. Hospitality and experiences are SIGNL categories: boutique hotels, pool day passes, boat tours, escape rooms, cooking classes, museums and event venues all run on the same roster. The offer states exactly what is covered, including how many people the comp covers, before you claim it.

Does it cost anything to join for these categories?

No. SIGNL is free for creators. Always, in every category. You never pay to join, to list, or to get booked. The only creator fee anywhere in the system is 3 percent of a paid booking, taken from the payout. Comped visits carry no fee at all.

How many followers do I need for non-food comps?

The same as for food: brand deals on SIGNL start at 500 followers, and what businesses rank is local reach, the share of your audience that lives in the market, not the raw count. A med spa or a boutique would rather book a creator whose followers live ten minutes away than a bigger account whose audience is national.
